Delays
in enforcement action by the FDA as well as failure to enforce the
full, premarket review process have created a climate in which products
like JUUL devices can be marketed as smoking cessation to adults while
ignoring the potential ramifications for adolescents and teenagers.

Ninety-five
percent of colon cancers begin as polyps. Cologuard is not as good at
finding pre-cancerous polyps and, unlike colonoscopy, it can’t remove
them. According to the NEJM study, Cologuard misses more than 30 percent
of polyps that will soon be cancer, and 57 percent of polyps that may
become cancer.

How online crowdfunding supports cancer quacks [Respectful Insolence]

The
problem is that the medical expert or the expression of doubt is
usually used as the “token skeptic” and buried somewhere in the middle
of the text. Sometimes, as Dvorak did after noting that the therapy has
no evidence to support it, reporters even use consensus medical opinion
as a foil, immediately pivoting to a “but…” and going on to portray what
the family is doing as a brave gamble rather than what it is, an
unfortunate desperate family being taken advantage of by quacks.
