Prostate cancer screening: massive study gets minimal coverage. Why? [HealthNewsReview]
|
|
|
|
|
|
It
stands in stark contrast to the mega-coverage we’ve documented for many
years on other prostate cancer screening studies that are typically
much less rigorous — and which often trumpet an imbalanced,
pro-screening message about prostate cancer. Not that the British study
advocates against screening, but it certainly brings many of its
limitations into focus.

Cyteir Bags $29M to Tap “Self Destruct” in Cancers, Immune Diseases [Xconomy]
|
|

Though
AID helps cancers grow, it also damages their DNA, Mills says. To
repair that damage, cancers use another protein called RAD51. A Cyteir
cancer drug would interfere with that repair protein, limiting its
ability to fix damaged DNA. As a result, AID activity is unchecked and
destroys the cancer cell, Mills says.

To
address the problem, some EU countries have banded together to create a
united front against pharmaceutical companies. The Netherlands,
Belgium, Austria and Luxembourg have formed one such union. Half a dozen
Mediterranean countries hope to do the same.
