Treatment or surveillance for CIN2: when less is more [BMJ]
In
young women in particular, expectant management is a valid option, as,
in this group, up to 60% of CIN2 lesions regress under active
surveillance within two years, and progression is extremely rare. This
does not mean, however, that all women should be “left untreated”.

Some smear test abnormalities 'self-heal' [BBC News]
The
British Medical Journal research looked at the outcomes of more than
3,000 women and found half of the "moderate" lesions found on routine
smear tests regressed spontaneously. The study authors stress it is
still very important that women attend for cervical screening when
invited.

Broad, Dana-Farber Launch Patient-Driven Prostate Cancer Project [Genome Web]
Called
the Metastatic Prostate Cancer (MPC) Project, the program allows
prostate cancer patients to fill out a demographic and medical history
survey on its website. Patients will then be sent a saliva-collection
kit — and in some cases a blood biopsy kit, as well — to provide MPC
researchers with samples for DNA sequencing.

Merkel makes a surprise pick for German research minister [Science]
Trained
as a banker, she worked as a hotel manager before being elected to the
German Parliament in 2013. There, she worked mostly on finance issues.
Unlike her three predecessors, all women, Karliczek has had little
contact with research or education policy and has no Ph.D.
