Chief medical officer calls for gene testing revolution [BBC News] Over 31,000 NHS patients, including some with cancer, have already had their entire genetic code sequenced. Dame Sally wants whole genome screening (WGS) to become as standard as blood tests and biopsies.
All cancer patients should have their DNA tested to save lives, Chief Medical Officer says [The Telegraph] Dame Sally also called for a National Genomics Board to be set up and said training in genetics should be given to all existing clinicians. The report also recommended that The National Screening Committee should conduct an evaluation into whether rolling out genetic screening nationally would be beneficial for public health.
Make DNA tests routine part of NHS care, says UK's chief medical officer [The Guardian] In her annual report, Davies stresses her enthusiasm for the genomic revolution which could transform the treatment that NHS patients receive. Drugs can be matched to the disease and to the patient to maximise the benefit and reduce side-effects.

Cancer-surviving women a third less likely to become pregnant, study finds [The Guardian] The scientists analysed medical records for more than 23,000 women in Scotland who survived cancer after being diagnosed between 1981 and 2012. The cancer survivors had only 6,627 pregnancies, far fewer than the 11,000 or so expected for an age-matched group of women in the general population.

British ministers want post-Brexit drug regulation deal with EU [Reuters] The ministers said there were numerous examples where the partnership between Britain and the EU had helped patients, including the licensing of 130 products for rare diseases. "We will look to continue to work closely with the European Medicines Agency (EMA)," they said.
