WHO report: Red meat linked to cancer – Expert reaction [New Zealand Science Media Centre]
Prof
Lynnette Ferguson, Professor of Nutrition, Auckland Cancer Society
Research Centre, University of Auckland, comments:“It is not like
cigarette smoking where there is no question that taking up cigarette
smoking is dangerous. There is no question that eating a solidly red and
processed meat diet is dangerous – but that’s not the way people eat.
It isn’t really in the same category and I think that is one of the
misunderstandings that is coming out."

But
James Coughlin, a nutritional toxicologist and a consultant for the
National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, said the panel’s conclusions were
based on “weak associations” that did not support its overall
conclusions. He pointed out that even the panel itself was divided on
the issue: Of 22 members who voted on its conclusions, seven either
disagreed or chose to abstain.

Why People With Metastatic Breast Cancer Want To Get Counted [Forbes]
As
things stand, doctors can’t say what proportion with early-stage
disease will recur (a controversial statistic, to be considered
separately). They don’t know, on average, or based on the breast cancer
subtype or otherwise, how long people are likely to live after a
recurrent, stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis.

Cancer diagnosis brings income loss for families [Reuters]

The
researchers found that after a cancer diagnosis, hours worked decreased
by about 200 hours, or five full-time weeks. Annual labor market
